The Meat Dilemma

Lately I've been having struggles with eating meat... the thought of putting meat in my mouth and chewing makes me gag. Even just writing about it! Last night I made this yummy chicken dish that Chad and I have had before. First of all, he had to put the chicken in the pan because I just can't bring myself to touch the raw meat. When we pulled it out of the oven it looked and smelled quite tasty but the second I cut into the chicken I about lost it. I thought huh, that's interesting and tried again and about ran to the bathroom. So I told chad just to eat the chicken and I'd make something else and eat some of the rice that I'd made with the chicken. I took one bite of the rice and gagged because it had touched the chicken and that's all I could picture! Haha! It was awful! I ended up making some grilled cheese sandwiches and had some chips and a smoothy I made.
So I have a bit of a dilemma. I know I need to be eating some meat for the protein for the baby, but at this point it's just not happening. Hamburger seems to be about the only thing I can handle without gagging and even that is iffy at times. Has anyone else had this problem when they were/are pregnant? Any suggestions of things I could eat to compensate for not eating the meat?
I'll be 12 weeks tomorrow and for the most part the nausea I've been experiencing (only at night) is abating but now is when I start feeling like I might really get sick. It's pretty funny! I thought it was supposed to be easier after 12 weeks but it seems harder now! Alright, enough complaining! Any suggestions are greatly appreciated!

I couldn't stand meat during the first trimester of my last pregnancy, either. I think you'll be fine...your body sort of knows what it really needs. Maybe you'll be able to stand it soon! Also, they'll test your iron levels pretty soon. If your iron's low, they'll prescribe a supplement. (Take it with orange juice...your body will absorb it better). Eat eggs for protein if you can stand them! Hamburger's good, too...red meat has the most iron! You'll be fine...if it makes you sick, don't eat it! Can't wait to find out what you're having!

When I was pregnant the first time I was so sick that I ended up in the hospital several times. My doctor told me to eat only what I could keep down. I really took this to heart and spent my first two trimesters eating only chocolate and spaghettios. (and yes, I gained 45 lbs because of it) But despite my poor diet, I think Khursten turned out fine. I agree with Robyn. Your body will tell you what it needs. With Audrey all I wanted was meat and chocolate made me want to throw up. It just depends on your body at the time, and the needs of your baby. I defintely wouldn't bother gagging down stuff that makes you sick just to try and be healthy. It's not worth it. That's what prenatal vitamins are for, right?

So glad you are finally updating! I have missed ya! Costco has a really good protein shake. I add some peanut butter too so there is all types of protein in there and they are sooo good! Good luck!

I've heard the meat adversion is common. My sister-in-law had it with all 3 of her babies. I ended up with a chocolate adversion with Grace. Just eat what gets you through this. About the iorn supplements. I had to take them with both my girls and they made me so sick. Even the good ones my doctor recomended. Just a little warning.

I'm glad you guys are doing so well!
